2050 Envisioning statement by the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation Early Childhood Development Partners in Nairobi, Kenya!

Hot off the press! Envisioning statement by the Hilton Foundation ECD Partners – “It is 2050, and the gains being shown were sown in 2023 by Hilton Foundation’s ECD Partners at the Collective Impact Workshop conducted in Nairobi.” This envisioning statement was developed by Kenyan Early Childhood Development Partners funded by the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation at the convening meeting that occurred on the 21st-22nd  of March 2023 in Nairobi.

ECD partners at the convening meeting discussed and agreed on the principles of deliberate joint action needed in order to create a shared agenda and envisioning the future of ECD in Kenya. During the meeting, partners also got an opportunity to flesh out and  identify the real drivers of individualism which hinder collaboration and developed an awareness of their current communication mechanisms and to judge their strengths and weaknesses.

Other key topics that formed part of the convening meeting where:

The Kenya Demographic and Health Survey 2022 i.e.

  • Interpretation of results from KDHS

  • What indicators are the most relevant for the age group and population that ECD partners seek to serve?

  • What tools are in alignment to those indicators?

By the end of the two day workshop, partners created an accountability and support mechanism on the basis that no single actor/partner/policy/organisation can solve complex ECD issue or complex social problems on their own. That, co-creating a way forward and planning for ongoing facilitation, dialogue and direct support for aligned activities is beneficial. Therefore, it is envisioned that Hilton Foundation and Partners will have a greater understanding of priority actions moving forward and the collective commitments to work together in ECD. The Convening meeting provided Hilton Foundation and Spark Health Africa a platform to learn useful insights that will inform impactful upcoming convening meetings.
