Spark Health Africa in collaboration with the Ministry of Health are implementing a competence-based mentorship program in 10 selected districts as a way to strengthen the government’s response to health systems challenges through a Transformative Leadership and Culture Change initiative.

The first phase of the initiative ran from January 2019 to June 2020, and focused on improving maternal, newborn and child health indicators by influencing shifts in work culture through mentorship, coaching, and thought-partnership.

The second phase of the initiative (running from July to December 2020) focuses on consolidating the gains made in Phase 1 by transitioning ownership to the MoH and further imbedding transformational thinking to ensure sustainability of the new work cultures developed by districts before the MoH scales up the initiative nationally.
