Manicaland province, Zimbabwe (2018-2020)

Manicaland health management team training on facility-level data use using the Welsh Calendar

Following a successful program in Matabeleland North province in Zimbabwe, the national Ministry of Health and Child Care (MOHCC) identified Manicaland province as fertile ground for a Transformative Leadership and Culture Change Program.

We worked with the Provincial Health Executive Team (PHE), 7 District Health Executive teams (DHEs), the Mutare City Council Health Executive team, and the Mutare Provincial Hospital Executive team. USAID-funded implementing partners, FHI 360, PSI, and OPHID, also attended igniting workshops to join the MOHCC teams in their culture change journey.

Data-use for decision-making was a key focus throughout the program. We supported management teams to use simple data visualization tools with frontline workers to help them identify and unpack service delivery challenges contributing to maternal and perinatal mortality through root-cause analysis and strategic decision-making. As teams became more comfortable with data, we supported teams in the adoption of an excel-based data dashboard to visualize data across programs.
